Nainital

Nainital is one of the most popular hill stations in India. It is situated in the Kumaon foothills of outer Himlayan range at an altitude of 2,084 metres (6,837 ft) above sea level. Nainital is surrounded by many peaks like Naina or China Peak (2,615 m (8,579 ft)), Ayarpatha (2,278 m (7,474 ft)), Deopatha (2,438 m (7,999 ft)). From these higher peaks of Nainital many enchanting and magnificent views can be obtained.

In summers Nainital has maximum temperature 27 °C (81 °F); minimum temperature 7 °C (45 °F) and due to this temperate weather the population of Nainital increases five times as of usual due to tourism. In winters the temperature ranges from a maximum of 15 °C (59 °F) and a minimum of −3 °C (27 °F) and in between December and February Nainital receives snowfall.

As Tal means lake the name of this town Nainital was named after a lake in this town Naini Lake. It is a beautiful pear shaped lake surrounded by many green mountains. This lake is favorite destinations for tourists come to Nainital as they can enjoy boating, paddling or yachting in this lake.

Besides this lake Nainital have many places to attract tourists like Naina Devi Temple, The Mall Road, Dorothy’s Seat, Snow View Point, Nainital Zoo, The Governor’s House (Raj Bhavan), St. John’s Church etc.

Naina Devi Temple is situated on Naina Hill and this temple attracts many devotees every year. It is said that Goddess Sati burnt herself in Yagna and God Shiv picked the carcass of Goddess Sati and started doing his Taandav and due to this all Gods in heaven got horrified and God Vishnu unshackle his chakra and cut down the corpse of Sati in 51 pieces and Naina Peak is the hill where eye of Sati fell down.

Mall Road

Another famous place is Mall Road as it stretches over Naina Lake from its North end to South end. It is the busiest road and in peak season vehicles are not allowed to enter this road so that the commercial activities smoothly. This road is full of restaurants, shopping malls, hotels and street shops.

Other tourist destinations near Nainital are Bhimtal, Sattal (21 km), Ranikhet (55 km), Kausani (112 km).
